New FTA Ruling Mandates Change To County Connection’s Pavilion Shuttle Service

Concord, Calif. – A recent ruling by the Federal Transit Administration prohibits the County Connection and the Sleep Train Pavilion from providing the shuttle service as it has for the past several years. The service, which has been free to concert attendees, was ruled as Charter Service, and could jeopardize federal funds County Connection receives. This ruling goes into effect April 30, 2008. The first Pavilion concert is Friday, May 2nd.

All passengers using the Pavilion Shuttle from the Concord BART station must pay the regular County Connection fixed-route fare. The cash fare is $1.75 each way, but all County Connection discount punch cards and passes will be accepted. In an effort to encourage concert attendees to continue using the popular shuttle, staff at the Pavilion will be on hand with coupons for complimentary soft drinks for all shuttle passengers.

In order to minimize delays in boarding the buses at the end of the concert, patrons will be encouraged to pay the round trip fare when boarding the bus at the Concord BART station. They will then be given a return ticket to use when boarding the bus at the end of the concert.

“This ruling is making noise at popular venues nationwide, and we’ll continue to work with the FTA to seek clarity in the definition of Charter Service,” said Rick Ramacier, County Connection’s General Manager. “In the meantime, we will continue to provide shuttle service to the concerts, and do whatever we can to ensure that the service runs as smoothly as before.”

The Pavilion Shuttle leaves the Concord BART station approximately 90 minutes before all paid concerts, circulating every 20 minutes until 30 minutes after the show has begun. All County Connection buses are equipped with wheelchair ramps or lifts, and Pavilion staff is available if seating assistance is required. Please call the County Connection Information Center at 676-7500 for information on service dates and times.
