County Connection Offers An Alternative To Gas Prices
Concord, Calif. – Gas prices are painful topics for the majority of the Bay Area’s families. Even though fuel costs have also increased for transit systems, The County Connection has maintained the price of its Summer Youth Power Pass.
With gas hovering at $4.50 a gallon, more youths and their families are choosing to catch the bus, instead of spending money on fuel. This is evident in the increases in ridership, especially on weekends.
The Summer Youth 20-Ride Pass sells for $13, keeping fares down to as little as 65 cents a ride and is $22 less than cash fares. Passes can be used for multiple individual trips or for single use for a large group. They are good on all County Connection fixed-route buses, including trips to Waterworld, YMCAs, Amtrak, malls, and theaters. The pass is valid until September 30th so that parents can have a break on transportation costs when kids return to school in the fall.
“Parents can let their kids try public transit as alternative to expecting a ride from them,” said Mary Burdick, Manager of Marketing and Public Relations. “With gas prices so high, the pass holds even more value.”
Students who learn how to use public transportation at an early age are more likely to use transit as a commute alternative when they reach adulthood, learning responsible independence, as well as helping the environment.
The summer youth passes can be purchased through the mail or at the County Connection Transportation Center located at the Walnut Creek BART station. Cards are also available at most of the agency’s sales outlets throughout the county or online.
